What Causes Severe Pain In The Arms And Legs?

I have had increasingly worsening chronic pain mainly in my arms/legs, but also headaches and overall widespread pain throughout my body. Every test I have been given has come back negative, including head/neck/back MRIs. My white cells are not elevated, all organ function is normal, all auto-immune tests are negative as well.... at this point my doctor is defaulting to the possibility of fibroyalgia... I am wondering if there is anything else I should do? With my insurance being what it is, I need a referral to see a specialist, which I haven t received. Is there a specific specialist I should see? I am 34 years old and not ready to accept that I will be in pain for the rest of my life.

Hello,

First of all, I would like to say its really great to see you with a will power on fighting the pain with such a spirit. When it comes to pain throughout the body and all the related blood tests and imaging tests show nothing significant then next thing comes in mind of a physician is the possibility of fibromyalgia-like illness.

As per your query, the next best thing you can do is to see a rheumatologist as the disease your doctor is suspecting comes under autoimmune disorders and the best specialist to visit for this is a rheumatologist. He will be giving you best advice on further tests for your autoimmune profile and suggest you appropriate treatment for that, especially the pain you are having currently will be managed well once the underlying cause will be identified.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Manisha Auradkar,
