What Causes Severe Pain In The Breast While On Osmotic Metformin?

30 days ago I was changed from 500 Metformin ER twice daily to 1000mg Osmotic Metformin ER twice daily. Recently diagnosed type 2. I was doing well before but now have developed severe breast pain, strong itching on my back, and skin sensitivity. Could I have an allergy to the osmotic compilation. I also take 15 units of Lantus at bedtime and 2 mg Amaryl in the morning. Any help appreciated, I am in agony. The goal of the change was to hopefully eliminate the shot. I do have latex allergy.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It may be related to the frequency of use, most ER medicines are used once daily though this can sometimes vary.

It would be best to discontinue the new medication and speak to your doctor as soon as possible. If related to the medication, the effects should decrease within 3 days of discontinuation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
