What Causes Severe Pain In The Chest And Upper Back?

Last Sunday morning, I woke up with severe pain in my chest and upper back. Went to the emergency room and they did ekg and blood work. Said it was acid reflux and gave me prescription for protonics but I alread6 take them daily. All week, I’ve been having nausea and rapid pulse. Today, I had the same symptoms, severe pain in stomach/chest and upper back, nausea and rapid pulse. Could it be gallstones/gallbladder?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Minimal requirement for the symptoms you have is

1. Upper GI scope checking whether you have any hiatus hernia, reflux disease, sphincter tone and any ulcers in stomach or duodenum
2. To rule out gall stones you need a ultrasound abdomen and an LFT to look into the liver function.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
