What Causes Severe Pain In The Ear And Headache?

Hello, I have had earaches. Twice now in 1 month. The first time, I had a little knot or pimple. A sore remained for like 2 wks. All last week my ear seemed fine. Two nights ago my ear was building pressure. I woke up feeling awful Monday. I went to the Dr. My ear was not red but I had a deep cough. So he started a z-pac antibiotics. Tuesday I woke up with terrible pain in ear, headache and a lot of pressure in my head. My ear also had been draining when I woke up. My doctor had me in and out and really didn t seem concerned. I did not call him today. Though I m wondering if I should have my ear drum more examined. Im wondering if I hurt my ear drum weeks ago when I had the Knot. I did stick my finger constantly in my ear. It hurt and drove me crazy.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Scalp tenderness may be due to a local cause like scalp infection, abscess or trauma.

Other causes may be migraine, tension-type headache or temporal arteritis or herpes zoster.

Are you having a headache, vomiting, nausea, photophobia, phonophobia, sleep disturbances? If yes, then certain neurological issues may be present and you should do head CT scan or MRI. Use of local anesthesia is a short lasting procedure. If required in cases of tension-type headache botox injection can be given.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
