What Causes Severe Pain In The Ear Which Radiates To The Jaw?

Hello, went to the Dr. Friday for sever ear pain which radiates to my jaw and neck. Said there was fluid behind the ear, prescribed amoxicilin. Still taking ibuprofen every 4 hrs. although the pain is not as severe as on Friday. Just wondering what the normal time frame would be for complete relief and also could this be tooth related? Just had my teeth cleaned w/x-rays last month...
thanks
