What Causes Severe Pain In The Hands, Wrists And Fingers?

My husband is having severe pain in his wrists and hands as well as numbness in his fingers. We thought it might be carpal tunnel first, but it has become constant and nothing is helping. He has taken pain medicine, anti-inflammatory meds, used ice packs, and braces with no relief.

Hello....i understand your concern.
The symptoms you have mentioned are very much suggestive of carpal tunnel syndrome which occurs due to median nerve compression at the wrist.
Pain medication and anti inflammatories at best would only provide temporary relief.
I suggest you visit a neurologist and get a nerve conduction velocity test (NCV) done. This is would diagnose carpal tunnel syndrome with certainty. Also get his thyroid function tested.
If it is indeed carpal tunnel syndrome then he will need surgery to relieve the compression of the nerve.
All the best...
