What Causes Severe Pain In The Head, Neck And Shoulder After An Accident?

HI, I was in a accident on Saturday night . I was hit from behind. went to hospital and ct scan was fine and xrays they said were fine. I have a terrible headache and pain in my neck and shoulder, and some discomfort down my arm, I have screw in my neck at my c6-c7 from a previous occasion. I called to speak with my doctor and have not been able to reach him, I was told the muscle are irritated and inflamed . so do I just sit and wait it out or go get rechecked?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello thank you for writing us here.
Its less likely to be inflammation of muscles.
Possible reasons being due to hyper flexion of neck, the nerve roots might have compressed in your neck leading to severe pain.

I would suggest you to take diclofenac tablets for pain but you must see an orthopedic doctor so they can guide you with better treatment options.
Physiotherapy would be prescribed for you and you must follow the exercises properly to get good results.

God bless you
Best regards,
Dr Gunjan
