What Causes Severe Pain In The Hip, Knees And Shoulder?

My husband has severe arthritis, diabetes, no bladder control has been on penal Catholic for about 5 yrs.,neuropathy,one atrophied kidney, severe pain hips and knees, and shoulder and is nursing home patient. What disease caused muscles to not work. He was bedridden for over 2 yrs and has some atrophy, but more fear than atrophy?
