What Causes Severe Pain In The Hips After Receiving A Depo-Medrol Injection?

my wife received a depo-medrol injection 24 hours ago in her right hip for bursitis. Today the pain is worse, level 9-10, and we can t reach her pain mgmt. doctor. I am a retired nurse and I have injectable Toradol on hand, but am concerned about a possible drug interaction. She got 40mg of the depo, If I give her Toradol it would be 30mg. She also takes oxycodone 10mg every 4 hrs, but it s not helping much with this breakthrough pain. I m just trying to ease her pain until the depo takes effect. they told us it could take 24-48 hrs.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It is not recommended to take Toradol with Oxycodone. The combination can have serious side effects like drowsiness, breathing difficulty etc. Just apply ice to the area of pain and continue Oxycodone. She can also take Advil every 6 hours. Take adequate rest. The pain will subside in few hours.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
