What Causes Severe Pain In The Hips?

I have a family history of rheumatoid arthritis. I have been experiencing left hip pain after sitting or laying down for more than 15 minutes. Occasionally, I will step wrong and get a shot of pain in the hip, acting like it is locked up. After about a minute or two of walking/limping, it is back to normal without pain.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Rheumatoid arthritis can effect almost any joint but the hip one is not the most common one, generally the small joints of the fingers are more commonly effected and it causes joints to be effected symmetrically with some local heat and swelling.

To make sure if it is rheumatoid arthritis you will need a good visit and possibly some blood tests and have a proper diagnosis.

If it is rheumatoid arthritis you will need to start DMARDs which are drugs that modify the progression of the disease and not only treat symptoms.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
