What Causes Severe Pain In The Inner Thigh While Sleeping?

I experienced evere pain while asleep a week ago @ 1a.m. on my inner thigh on the upper part of leg. It reapeated several times that night and lasted 10-15 sec each time. The emergency room the next a.m., recommendation was to eat more potassium...bananas & drink liquids. I have a banana every day & drink 4 glasses of liquid daily. It has not been as sever since, but there is a pain every day since. What can I do to rid the pain?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

From your description, I am of the opinion that you suffered from electrolyte imbalance and decreased potassium. And thus spasmodic pain in muscles. You can have potassium replacement as tablets too. As soon your potassium levels are up to mark your pain will go. Another way to deal with it is to add NSAIDs for acute symptoms.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ashish Ranjan, General & Family Physician
