What Causes Severe Pain In The Jaw After Receiving Prolia Injection?
I had my first prolia injection the end of July. Since Wednesday I have been experiencing severe lower jaw pain. I thought it might be connected to the cold symptoms I started having a couple of days after that. Today I saw a TV ad about prolia and jaw pain. Should I contact my Dr tomorrow and how will they be able to tell if it is connected to the prolia?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..
As per your complain jaw pain or pain in other bones can be seen as a common side effect of Prolia that is given for Osteoporosis..
Prolia can also cause bone pain and in case of jaw bone it can also cause Osteonecrosis of jawbone which is commonly seen in case if you get an extraction of tooth done post prolia shot or if there is infection in teeth, it can get severely exaggerated leading to severe pain, loosening of teeth and at times teeth loss..
So my advise is to first of all consult an Oral Physician and get a thorough clinical evaluation of oral cavity done to check for any teeth decay or other dental issues and if nothing is found out it can be simply a side effect of Prolia.. In that case changing the drug and discussing the same for further treatment with your Physician should be done to prevent side effects..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
