What Causes Severe Pain In The Joints And Muscles?
I had breast cancer 2 1/2 years ago and am on hormone blocker exemestane. I was already taking medication for hypothyroidism and am still taking it. I have severe bone & joint pain, muscle pain and seem to be gaining weight on air. I am 65. Would the cancer medication affect the thyroid medication? I know the cancer meds cause these symptoms, but I have no energy and the weight gain is bothering me and I just feel tired all the time. Do I need to have my thyroid meds re-evaluated? Could this be a cause and/or effect on my symptoms or not? No doctor has addressed my thyroid during this.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Tiredness bone and joint pains are side effects related to exemestane treatment. Need to take daily calcium supplements and 6 monthly zolendronic acid as advised by the cancer therapist . need to get the bone densitometry if you don't have a baseline test done to look into the body bone density and risk of fractures. Meet your physician or endocrinologist, get that thyroid profile done and based on the report can change the dosage of thyroid medication. Yearly mammography of the opposite breast is a must.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
