What Causes Severe Pain In The Knees?

Hi! Last Wednesday, I was running on my local high school track, but when I finished I began feeling pain on the outside of my knee and a tingling sensation in the bottom of my foot. I took a day off from running, and then ran again, but this time the pain in my knee was sharp and I couldn t continue. The next day I woke up with swelling and bruising. I then took off from running for 4 days and began running again today, but I am still having the pain. What could be causing my pain?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have severe pain in knees. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like tendinitis , patella dislocation , meniscus tear or fracture . I would suggest you to consult orthopedic surgeon for proper examination . Doctor may order CT scan or MRI along with physical examination and movements of knee . Doctor may prescribe orthodox MR along with anti inflammatory and vitamin supplement for quick healing . Doctor may also recommend complete bed rest and physical therapy . Doctor may also recommend surgery in severe damage . For now take complete rest , apply warm compresses several times a day and take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
