What Causes Severe Pain In The Left Hip?

Pain deep in my left hip woke me up 2 days ago. since then it has progressed to my knee. It is a constant, dull deep pain. I have not injured it. I did have back surgery a few years ago L5 and S1 and I had a mass in a bundle of nerves. there is not obvious anything, yet it has gotten progressively worse. Laying down is the worst. I had sciatica 35 years ago in my right leg when I was pregnant...nothing since and this does not feel the same at all. could a blood clot develop for no reason and cause the pain?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* As the pain is radiating from hip to knee, there are more possible chances of having nerve compression at lower lumbar spine level.

* Though primary relief can be obtained with medicines and physiotherapy, it is strongly suggested to consult your doc and get prescription of MRI spine.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
