What Causes Severe Pain In The Left Shoulder Blade?
I had an infection in my left elbow and cleared it up with antibiotics. A couple weeks later or so I was experiencing severe shoulder blade pain in the left shoulder. I have been told by a couple of doctors now that it s a pinched nerve in the neck area and it radiates down my left arm and my hand goes numb and tingles! I experience this in certain positions such as typing or bending down. It s been a problem for several weeks now. What is going on???
A pain running down your left arm when your hand is in certain positions is indicative of a pinched nerve in your cervical spine. It is a common problem experienced by people who work long hours in particular positions.
There are a number of exercises you can find on youtube- type neck physiotherapy. Do slow movements. Reduce work in the positions that give you pain temporarily so as to rest the affected region.
You could take a Diclofenac medicine for the pain in the meantime, an MRI of the neck would show where and what nerve has been pinched. This would further help decide the course of treatment. Traction is an effective form of treatment that you can ask your clinician about.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Pranav Balakrishnan
