General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello.

I am sorry to hear about your pain. The pain from a prolapsed disc can be quite severe. It is caused by the trapping of nerves between the bulging disc and the spinal column.

I am afraid, the only solution is surgical decompression of the nerve i.e. freeing it from the compression. Till then, you can take pain killers like Tramadol or paracetamol for the pain. Avoid taking NSAIDs like ibuprofen or aspirin for long periods of time as they can cause kidney problems. Some drugs like amitriptyline and pregabalin also help in reducing nerve pain. You might need a prescription from a doctor for these.

Wishing you a speedy solution.

Regards,
Dr Geeta
