Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have severe leg pain 24/7. It never goes away. I feel I am dying a slow painful death. I am 58 years old and I have been very active my whole life. I can hardly workout now due to the severe pain. MY legs are mush and I feel I have run a marathon every day. The only thing that helps is hydrocodone. I am sick of this and I want help. I have had MRI s and have been to a neurologist. I have had 2 spinal fusion surgeries as well and I am curious if my problems stem from this. The neurologist said i could have neurothapy and have slight stenosis. I also have caffeine in my diet during the day. Could this be causing my leg pain? I am at a loss. Life is no fun anymore. Please advise and thanks so much! Jeff

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Your pain in the legs seems to be partly due to nerve compression/spinal cord compression (stenosis) causing muscle spasms.
You had two fusion surgeries before and only hydrocodone gives some relief. In this scenario, the option would be to take steroid injection at the site of compression. Inflammation can be relieved by drugs, like Ibuprofen, Aspirin. Along with this, physiotherapy and physical therapy also have role in reducing the pain. Medicines like calcium, vitamin D, minerals like zinc and phosphorus help to build healthy muscles. In case nothing helps, then decompression surgery is the answer.
Thanks.
