What Causes Severe Pain In The Lower Abdomen On The Left Side?

I have had two instances of severe, sharp, knee buckling pain in my left lower side. It seems to be in an ovary. The last time I felt this pain was around 8 or 9 months ago. I took ibuprofen and dealt with it for a few days and it went away. I am having the familiar pain currently, and it has lasted about a week, and again I am taking ibuprofen as needed, and the pain seems to be going away. I wasn t on my period the first time I had this pain, but I don t remember where exactly in my cycle. I should be due to start my period in the next week or two currently, so I am wondering if this is an ovulation fluke of pain, or if I really need to go to a doctor. Thank you

Hello,

Ovulation pains generally are 2 weeks before your next periods and also do not last more than 2 days.
If you pain is longer then 2 days or the pain is not in the middle of the two periods (or 2 weeks before the expected day of the next period, this is more accurate) then it does not seem to be ovulation pain.

It is best to see your doctor and have a gynecological exam and according to the findings there the doctor might consider the need for other tests.
There are also other structures in the lower left abdomen area like bowel. If you are experiencing difficulty with stools, constipation can be a reason. Still a visit with your doctor will give more clarifications on this.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
