What Causes Severe Pain In The Lower Abdomen While On Antibiotics?

I have been taking antibiotic since last Thursday. Today I have intense pain in lower abdomen and craps. No problem with bowel movement. Pain is getting worse. Extreme gas. Can hardly stand up straight. Stomach is swollen and hurts when touched. I normally do not have stomach problems. Craps are worse upon standing. I did not take second antibiotic today. What is wrong? Do I need to go to ER?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello there I have read through your question and it seems you have developed severe gastritis. Some strong antibiotics can cause gastritis in some people. It is advisable therefore to take an antacid along with the antibiotic to avoid gastritis. Since you have already stopped the antibiotic I would advise you to wait and watch. If you are not relieved in 24 hours you should consult your physician. Start taking an antacid like omeprazole 20mg on empty stomach . Drink lots of water and avoid spicy and oily food. I hope that answers your question. If you have any further questions please feel free to write. Thank you for choosing healthcare magic.
