Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have just had CAT scan of abdomen and they mentioned extrarenal pelves bilaterally. I have not ever had this indicated on CAT scan or xray or MRI prior to this. I have issues with a lot of pain in the lower abdomen on both sides is this something I should be concerned about?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
Extra renal pelvis without any urinary problems can be a normal anatomical variant.
Still, the severe pain in lower abdomen needs to be evaluated for (it can be bladder problem, pelvic inflammation or digestive problem).
Please consult your family physician for primary evaluation & possible treatment referral to a gynecologist (on the case you are a female), kidney specialist or gastroenterologist. Do not massage or foment. Try with an anti-inflammatory drug like Ibuprofen over the counter, drink sufficient water till you see a doctor.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale,
General & Family Physician
