What Causes Severe Pain In The Lower Back Area?

In early May I woke up with a severe pain across my lower back. I struggled to get out of bed and make it through the day. However I took a muscle relaxer pill and the pain was gone the next morning. Then 2 weeks ago it happened again. However this time the pills help relieve some of the pain but it still remains. It has slowly gotten better over the last 2 weeks. I think I also had a bladder infection which some antibiotics cleared up. Last week I had xrays and the doctor says there is a lot of gas in my colon and suspects a partial obstruction. As long as I sit or lay down the pain is practically non-existent. However it is very painful to stand. I have to push myself up from my knees and force myself to straighten up. Once I am up it seems to get better the longer I stand. However bending over the least little bit is extremely painful. It never goes away completely but when I take the muscle relaxers it is bearable. The pain is on both sides and in the middle right at waist level. The pain was over my entire lower back but now it is just at waist level. I could push my thumb into one spot and relieve some of the pain when it was at its worst but not anymore. Does this sound like a colon problem? I m getting a CT Scan Thursday to make sure I don t have any kind of obstruction but I don t think that my colon is causing the back pain. What should I do?
