What Causes Severe Pain In The Lower Jaw While On Medication For Hypertension?

I am a 65 year old female, taking medication for hypertension (one of several medications I take). I am having severe pain in my left lower jaw. It hurts when I open my mouth but sometimes I will get a sharp pain when my mouth is closed. It does not appear to be a dental issue. It has been hurting off and on all day. The pain will disappear completely for awhile then return. Is this something serious or can it wait to see if it totally goes away on its own. Thank you.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain severe pain in lower jaw that comes in bouts of severe pain and pain on opening and closing the mouth can be due to all seems to be interconnected and can be due to TMJ problem or other causes like decayed teeth or nerve trauma..
I would suggest you to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like x-ray can help in diagnosis and treatment can be planned accordingly..
As of now you can take anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen and muscle relaxant like Chlorzoxasone..
Take soft diet and maintain a good oral hygiene..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
