Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband - age 68, is having extreme pain in his neck. First on the right side of his neck, now it s moved to the back of his neck. He has previously had heart problems & has had 3 stents - can neck pain be a sign of heart/stroke problems? He is a smoker. Thank you!!!
Hello, Neck pain may indicate heart or stroke issues but is more commonly associated with nerves or muscles in the neck. It can also be caused by bone or disc problems in the part of the spine that is in the neck. First of all try to help him quit smoking since that is also a cause of headaches. If he drinks alcohol it would be helpful for him to stop that as well. He needs to drink plenty of water. The most important thing is for him to see a doctor for an evaluation. You cannot treat the neck pain unless you know the cause. Regards
