What Causes Severe Pain In The Neck?

Friday morning, I had problems turning my neck without sharp pain. Also can t raise my head or look up. When I do it sends a VERY sharp pain down my neck and back under left shoulder blade, slight bulge at base of neck, extreme top of back on spine. Has gotten worse over weekend. I can t lay down, I m in recliner with neck support. I m 53 in pretty good health. This is pretty bad, it s hard to get up and down, without sharp pain. I can t sneeze or cough also without sharp pain.
