Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was just sitting there and stretched out my fingers. A sharp pain happened in the palm side of the middle finger near the underside of the knuckle. It instantly turned black and blue. It was painful to touch when it first happened but now is fine. What would cause this? Should I be concerned? Is there anything I should do. I am on low dose blood pressure medicine - Losartan and hydrochlorothiazide. Earlier in the day I was carrying a bunch of stuff in that area.
Black and blue means collection of blood underneath skin i.e subcutaneous plain. Since it started with pain and straightening/stretching of the concerned finger and history of holding a bunch of staff.
It only indicates trauma to blood vessels under the skin. Apply ice cold water. Blood collected will eventually get absorbed.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
