What Causes Severe Pain In The Rib Cage On The Left Side?

I have been experiencing severe pain on my left side in the back and front of rib cage area. I do not recall straining it at all. Prior to this I have had a severe cough attacks. I know that I was diagnosed with left hip edema a few months ago. Can that spread upward and cause severe pain?

Probably it is related to the cough attacks you had before. Probably you are having a cold, bronchitis or pneumonia. An x-ray should be done and a doctor should listen to your lungs. Probably you need to take antibiotics.
