Husband is in Severe pain in his right shoulder down to his hand. I have given him some tramadol that we had left from another injury. We have iced it and he has been taking Aleve. He did play profession football in earlier years, but this just came up without any stimulation. Nothing has help. His pain level is a 9.0.I want to take him to the hospital, but he refuses.

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hi,

It seems your husband is having frozen shoulder.MRI shoulder joint will help it to distinguish from other causes of painful shoulder like arthritis or rotator cuff tear. Apart from analgesic, intra-articular corticosteroid injection in the shoulder joint will decrease pain. Local heat pad application also gives temporary relief from pain.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
