What Causes Severe Pain In The Shoulders?

Hi doctor, My shoulder has been in intense pain when lifting it past 90degrees and also when lowering the shoulder. I am a 24 year old athlete that has had my fair share of injuries that i don t get checked out. The pain started around 3 weeks ago when i woke up in the middle of the night not being able to move it at all from sleeping on it incorrectly. Is it possible it is still sore from that or do you think it is something more serious? Thanks for your time, Alex
