What Causes Severe Pain In The Thighs?

Our niece between age of 55-64 has severe pain in both thighs and has a hard time getting up from a chair and walking. She also has pain in her upper back below the neck and back of the shoulders. She has been everywhere including Mayo and has ruled out MS; Parkinsons, FIbermyalgia, Lymes disease. Any thoughts on this?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It could be a sciatica due to nerve compression in the thigh as gluteal region. You can give him Gabapentin which is quite effective in neuropathic pain including sciatica. You can also try Tramdol/Oxycodone in case of severe pain. If pain persists, better to consult a neurologist and get evaluated.

Wishing you good health.

Thanks.
