What Causes Severe Pain In The Throat After An Endoscopy?
I had an endoscopy with dilation on Thursday, dilated 20 mm. I am still having quite a lot of pain in my throat and esophagus, trouble digesting very soft foods, etc. I had an xray in the emergency room Thursday night after the procedure to rule out complications and results were negative. Should i still be so uncomfortable on the fourth day?

What Causes Severe Pain In The Throat After An Endoscopy?
Hello, It is due to local inflammation following the procedure. Nothing much to worry and it’s will settle by itself. As a first line management you can do warm saline gargles for symptomatic relief. You can also apply xylocaine spray for pain. Generally, the symptoms will settle in a couple of days. If pain persists better to consult an ENT specialist and evaluated. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards, Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
