What Causes Severe Pain In The Upper Abdomen?

For the last 8 year, I randomly have had horrible pain in my upper abdomen, then it is followed by bm s that seem to have oil in the toilet as well. These bm s last for a week or two, then there is no more oli in them, unless the pain comes back. When I have the pain, it so excruciating, that I can t breathe. The pain itself, lasts for about 20-30 minutes before going away. Do you have any recommendations on what I should do? I have contacted my Dr s office about this several times, and each time they take blood work, then tell me it s just acid reflux. I feel like it is more, and because of my age, not taken seriously. I am 31 years old, and Female.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

While gastritis is a possible diagnosis, given the duration of your symptoms I would suggest you ask your doctor for the need of an upper GI endoscopy. Meanwhile avoiding alcoholic beverages, oily and spicy food, 45 min of exercise for 5 days in a week and consuming timely meals will definitely help you in the long run.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. NIKITHA R, General & Family Physician
