What Causes Severe Pain In The Upper Back?

hi, so my dog ran out of my garage out to the yard near the street, i ran after him and finally caught up to him and i tried to pick him up the first time, and he was to heavy... while i was trying to pick him up i felt an immediate sharp pain in my upper back on left side... it hurts a little to move and i can really feel it when i breathe in and out..what could this be? Is this serious?

was the dog imunised. if the injury is bleeding get the back examined by doctor. it can be sprain. apply analgesic ointment locally and take tab combiflam twice daily after food.
