Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Having severe shooting pains traveling through and around middle of right upper leg. Just started today. Severe enough to stop me dead in my tracks & involuntarily scream out. Worse with movement, but has occurred even while resting to write this. Tender to the touch also. Have had sciatica in past, also a right hip replacement. Never had this kind of pain before.
Is the pain there on the anterior (front) or the posterior (back) part? Sciatica pain usually radiates in the back of your leg. Have you done any strenuous work out recently or got hurt anytime nearby? Let's see some of the possible cause of your hip pain:
1) It could be meralgia parenthetic which spreads on leg due to entrapment of a nerve called lateral femoral cutaneous nerve.
2) Porous coated anatomic prosthesis for replacement can cause a similar type of pain too.
Right now the best thing to do is take a muscle relaxant and meet the orthopedician who has done your hip replacement or any orthopedician or General practitioner nearby for further management.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Melita Wesley,
General & Family Physician
