What Causes Severe Pain In The Wrist After Taking Levofloxacin?
I had taken levofloxacin for 3 nights. On the third night I was woken up by an extreme pain in my wrist and radiating down my hand and up the right side of my arm from my wrist to my elbow. I have not been able to use my hand, grab anything or lift even a glass with my right hand. I have been in a lot of pain for 3 days. I did quit taking the medicine after this happened. Do you think it could be caused from the medication and what can I do to make it feel better. I have not injured myself or anything. This started in the middle of the night and woke me out of a sound sleep.
The group from which levofloxacin is known to cause tendonitis or tendon rupture. So yes levofloxacin is responsible for pain in the wrist in your case unless any other injury is not there. However, there is no need to worry. As this side effect is reversible, means after completing the treatment pain will disappear. Till then apply hot compressions. Take ibuprofen on as and when required basis. If movements are still restricted, consult orthopedic once to rule out other pathology.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
