Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi there, I m wondering how severe a sore throat associated with allergies can get? I ve had a sore throat for a week without many other symptoms, which makes me think it could be allergies, however my throat is BURNING pain rather than scratching or itching, and it s spread to my ear. The pain is so severe that I cannot sleep. Thank you!
Noted your short and specific history about severe sore throat that has spread to the ears, causing lots of pain, not allowing to sleep. This seems to be acute Otitis Media due to infection spread form the throat via the Eustachian tubes. I would advise you the following: Do not blow nose. Do not instill anything in ear. Take an anti-inflammatory like Ibuprofen and an antihistamine. May need steroid for earlier relief and this needs a prescription, hence go to ER or your Doctor. Get an ENT examination done for properly finding the cause and get treated accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
