What Causes Severe Pain On Hernia Repair Site While Undergoing MRI Procedure?

I have mesh covering my hiatal hernia. I don t know if it is plastic or steel. When the they did the MRIs, I had a lot of pain there, so much that I called out to the man running the machine. He gave no responce. Each time it went over the cite I moaned loudly and still no responce. I m pretty sure he wasn t in the room during the procedure. Could the MRIs melted the metal or something.? I was too embarrassed to ask the man afterwords, he was very rude.

hello and welcome.

There is a possibility that the mesh was metal, although this is uncommon. If the mesh was indeed metal, then it should be known to you and you need to inform the technician before hand. No technician is allowed to stay inside the room when an MRI is being performed due to the risk of being exposed. The MRI would not have damaged the mesh but the MRI has magnetic waves which can cause it to move or displace. This is serious and should be avoided, please check with your treating doctor and avoid such future events.

Best wishes.
