What Causes Severe Pain On The Outer Part Of Knee While Bending?

My knee is generally fine. I exercise, ride a bike aggressively, and have had no episode to injure my knee. But, out of the blue, when I bend my knee at an acute angle, the outer part of my knee feels like I have a rug burn. It is quite painful. There is no swelling, and were it not for this one issue, I would have no pain at all. Any ideas?

Hello,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
Sometime aggressive strains on joint can have effects on them.
As you are used to regularly cycle which does cause strain on knee joint and a ligament in your knee must have been inflamed due to overuse.
Ligament injuries do heal on their own with good rest and support.
Take a break from cycling for 1-2 weeks. Allow knee to rest totally. Use knee support if required.
Apply ice 2 to 3 times a day to the sore area.
Ibuprofen once or twice a day will keep the pain and inflammation low and help to get the ligament cure faster.
I hope i have answered your query well.
Thank you
