What Causes Severe Pain, Swelling And Discoloration In Right Leg?

My husband is a veteran and is currently experiencing excruciating and blistering on his right leg. The leg swells and turns very dark, tender and painful to touch. This problem has been ongoing since early summer and I have taken him two hospitals and sis dermatologists have also examined him, but like the hospital staff, they are at an impasse. Please help.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have severe pain, swelling and discoloration in right leg . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like arthritis , gout , blocked blood vessels , brusitis or broken bone .

Allergic reaction can also cause such symptoms . I would suggest you to give proper rest to your leg , apply cold compresses on it , keep your leg stabilize, keep your leg elevated while lying down and take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain .

Consult orthopedic surgeon for proper examination . Doctor may order CT scan , MRI or physical examination . Doctor may give plaster , prescribe muscle relaxant along with anti inflammatory and physical therapy .

Doctor may also refer you to nephrologist for kidney failure or cardiologist for heart problem .
