Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Severe Pain Under The Diaphragm And Constipation?
I m having severe pain just under my diaphragm, at the top part of my abdomen. I may have a hiatal hernia based on a snap I felt while turning over during the night a few weeks ago, but this pain is a new development. Now it hurts to eat, and my stomach is distended. I m burping, bloated, and had to take a dulcolax to have a bowel movement after having been constipated for three days. What should I do? Do any of these symptoms seem consistent with a hernia or does it sound like some sort of infection? If so, what is your advice?
The kind of pain upper abdomen and bloating does not look like any kind of infection. (hope there is no fever ). even for hiatal hernia usually, there are more associated symptoms like a regurgitation of food or acid-reflux or chest pain, vomiting, etc.
I feel first of all take care of your diet. avoid tea, coffee, spicy and oily food. take a lot of fruits and green leafy vegetables in the diet. drink plenty of water. also, avoid smoking and drinking.
However, if this does not work and your symptoms still persist then you should surely get some investigations done like - complete blood count, h pylori test, TSH, and sugar levels. Upper GI Endoscopy can help to find any infection or hernia.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Milinda Gupta
