What Causes Severe, Radiating Abdominal Pain Under The Rib Cage, Extending To The Shoulder And Back That Has Been Persistent For Over A Year?

I get massive pain in my abdomen, under rib cage that radiates to my shoulder and around my back at times. It is debilitating pain and it s happening much more frequently. I ve been dealing with this for over a year. I m having an ultrasound today so I m praying for a diagnosis. It is a pain like no other. Any idea what it could be?

Hello,

Your symptoms are indicative of intercostal neuralgia. Get clinically examined by a GP. Get X-ray, electromyography, Musculo skeletal ultrasound, nerve conduction velocity test done to detect other underlying medical condition that may have similar symptoms like intercostal nerve entrapment, neuritis, etc.

Treatment includes conservative as well as physical therapy. If obese, lose weight. Maintain healthy weight.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
