Hello!

Thank you for asking on HCM!

I read your question carefully and understand your concern.

The symptoms you describe have some characteristics of migraine headaches.

I would like to have some more information about the nature of his headache (throbbing or pressing), the duration and the region of the head affected.

The diagnosis of headache is often clinical and all the characteristics should be prescribed in order to lead the doctor into the possible diagnosis.

Regarding the small seizures, Lamictal is a very good treatment for headache and seizures, and is also a mood stabilizer, which can help him with the depression symptoms.

Has he performed a brain MRI , besides the EEG? It is very important to perform a MRI, to exclude other possible intracranial causes of headache and abnormal activity on the EEG.

If the MRI results normal, you should discuss with your attending physician to consider the possibility to switch into another therapy like valproate or topiramate, which may be more effective than lamictal.

Hope to have been of help!

Greetings! Dr. Aida
