HI DOCTOR...MY HUSBAND HAS A SEVERE REACTION TO AMOXICILLIN/PENICILLIN FOR THE PAST 6 WEEKS. THE SYMPTOMS ARE ITCHY/RED RASH ALL OVER HIS BODY....WE ARE CURREENTLY SEEING AN INTERNIST THAT REFERRED US TO AN ALLERGY DOCTOR BUT THEY DIDN T PRESCRIBE US ANY MEDICATION. WE ARE FRUSTRATED AS WE WERE HOPING TO GET SOME RELIEF FOR THE ITCHING AND RASH. CAN YOU RECOMMEND WHAT WE COULD DO UNTIL WE SEE THE DOCTORS AGAIN ON TUESDAY

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

From your description, I am of the opinion that Your husband suffered from acute drug reaction which manifested as allergic rashes.

Stop the antibiotics. Allegra or any Levocetirizine tablet would be useful. local application of Fluticasone can also heal rashes at the local sites.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Ashish Ranjan, General & Family Physician
