General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
HI, Thanks for the query. The pain by side of knee cap can be due to trauma/ vitamin D or calcium deficiency/ inflammation of ligaments or tendons involved in knee joint.. X ray of knee may not reveal many of the causes, CT scan/ MRI/ Blood investigations ( serum calcium, rheumatic factor ) need to be done as per an orthopedic surgeon's advise to detect basic cause. & specific treatment to be followed. Please consult an orthopedic surgeon. Thanks.
