I have experienced extreme shortness of breath for 45 years, usually if I exert myself. Now told I have a tortuous esophagus and also been told previously that I have a hiatal hernia. Been treated for acid reflux for 25 years---taking Prilosec. Could this cause shortness of breath? Have had every cardio and pulmonary test there Is. Check out OK.

What Causes Severe Shortness Of Breath?
Hello, A hiatal hernia, of course, can cause shortness of breath and acid reflux too. The reflux can cause also pneumonia during aspiration of gastric content in lungs. You should treat a Hiatal hernia by surgery and also should treat reflux with antiacids or acid secreting blockers. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Take care Regards, Dr Olgeta Xhufka , General & Family Physician
