Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Severe Sinus Congestion After Taking Trazodone?
I started taking trazodone 50 mg in September. Since that time I have developed severe sinus congestion. I have taken 2 rounds of antibiotics and still experience pain above the bridge of my nose and my eyes are red and swollen. Could the trazodone cause this? Thank you.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain Trazodone containing active ingredient Trazodone hydrochloride is used to treat Insomnia is seems to cause Sinus infection as a side effect.. It is a common side effect in females than males.. I would suggest you to consult your treating physician and get evaluated and he can either reduce the dose of the medicine or change with other drugs.. As of now you can do steam inhalation, do saline nasal irrigation, and decongestant nasal spray like Xylometazoline for relieving congestion.. While sleeping you can keep your head slightly elevated with chin down to ease the drainage and ease in breathing..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
