What Causes Severe Sore Throat And Spitting Of Yellow Phlegm?
I have woken this morning with a really sore throat (not to swallow) only seems to be aching sore between my throat and nose. I cleared my throat and had a 20 c piece size of yellow phlegm streaked with bright to medium dark blood. Is this more than likely due to a sinus infection/flu or should I book an appointment with my GP? It has only happened once.

I have gone through your query. Your problem can be most likely due to bacterial sore throat infection. Antibiotics will be needed in such case. I would suggest broad spectrum antibiotics like Co-amoxiclav in such case. This is a prescription drug given in dosage of 625 mg twice daily for 5 to 7 days.
