What Causes Severe Stomach Pain After Taking Intuniv 2 Mg And Methylphenidate 20 Mg?

My son has ADHD and he s on Intuniv 2 mg that he takes in the evening. His doctor just added 20 mg of methylphenidate in the AM. He s complaining a lot about stomach pain. I also see some heart, kidney, and liver side effects that really scare me about this medication. Your thoughts?

Hi,

Suggestive of drug interactions. Taking methylphenidate while on intuniv may cause certain harmful interactions such as irregular heart beats, palpitations, chest tightness, blurring of the vision, nausea and stomach pain. Your son may need a dose adjustment of these medications by his doctor to take them safely.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
