Hello,
There are multiple cause that leads to the painful swelling in the calf. Reasons that can cause the condition are:
1)
Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and
thrombophlebitis - which you mention has been ruled out
2)
Varicose veins and chronic venous insufficiency: the valves inside your leg veins don't keep the blood flowing up toward your heart
3) Chronic conditions like:
>> a) Gout
>> b) renal failure
>> c) Rheumatoid arthritis
>> d) congestive heart failure
4) Injuries -- Strains, Sprains, and Broken Bones
Based on the information you provided try the following to reduced the swelling and if it does not help you need to see vascular surgeon for consultation to check details of you veins using venogram.
1) Cut back on salty foods
2) Wear compression stockings
3) Get exercise every day
4) On long car rides, switch positions and stop for breaks as often as you can
5) When you fly, get up from your seat and move around as much as possible
6) Raise your legs above your heart level for half an hour, several times a day
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
