What Causes Severe Swelling On The Left Ankle And Foot?

I am having severe swelling in only left ankle and foot. This has gone on for almost 3 months. It seems to be happening more often and tonight swelling was bad enough it made red marks on top of foot because skin is stretched so tight any suggestions

Swelling and red marks may suggest gout but it is more prevalent in big toe joint rather than ankle but it is possible it could happen in ankle joint. since is been three months recommend a visit to your primary care to rule out infectious/inflammatory disease.
